ICTE South Africa 2000 will focus on…

Crossing the Digital Divide:
Improving the Quality of Life through Educational Technology

Technology is advancing with breathtaking speed. In educational institutions worldwide, innovations in applications of technology to learning are being developed at an accelerating pace. New and exciting insights into successfully applying the new technology in the classroom are resulting from this wide range of innovative projects.

The annual ICTE Conference focuses strongly on these latest developments, and related applications of technology to teaching and learning. The Conference is attended by participants from the worldwide education community, including leading educators, education researchers, administrators, publishers, and technology companies engaged in education.

The Conference will provide a forum for vision and strategy, and will look in detail at the processes, procedures, techniques and tools for creating learning environments appropriate to the twenty-first century. There will be numerous themes, each examining a particular aspect of development and progress. A variety of theme-oriented sessions, as well as daily plenary session presentations from internationally recognized leaders in education and training, are planned.

Who Will Attend and What Can You Expect?
For the past seventeen years, ICTE has attracted participants from every sector of our worldwide educational and training community, including teachers, professors, researchers, trainers, administrators, human development directors, curriculum developers, publishers, and other resource providers. Typically, representatives from more than fifty nations attend each ICTE Conference, representing a wide range of interests and initiatives .

The themes for ICTE South Africa reflect this diversity of interest and give an opportunity for those attending to move freely into areas with which they are less familiar if they so wish. The Conference thus provides a unique opportunity to benefit from the wide range of professional expertise of those attending. It is a time to exchange ideas and to meet colleagues from all over the world.

The Bult is synonymous with the student community of Potchefstroom and offers a wide variety of restaurants and other eating places along its centre. A national monument, the Oak-lined avenue -- almost 8 km long -- contributes to the picturesque atmosphere of Tom Street in the Bult area. The avenue of beautiful oak trees is the longest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere. The trees, planted in 1910, cover an area from the Agricultural College to the Lakeside Recreation Resort.
