ICTE
Edinburgh 1999 Conference Notes
Conference Check-In and Location
Conference check-in and on-site registration
will be in the Concourse of Appleton Tower, on the campus of the University of Edinburgh.
The ICTE Edinburgh 1999 registration desk will be open on Sunday afternoon from 14:00
until 19:00. From Monday through Wednesday during the Conference, the registration
desk will be open each day from 7:45 until 17:00.
Appleton Tower is located on the East side of
George Square on the University of Ednburgh campus. To locate George Square on an
Edinburgh map, first find the Meadows, a large open park area approximately 1/2 mile South
of Edinburgh Castle, lying on the North side of Melville Drive. George Square is
just North of the Meadows. Charles Street runs along the East side of George Square,
and just across Charles Street are two multi-story buildings. The North tower is
Appleton Tower; the South tower is the David Hume Tower.
To reach Appleton Tower from the central
Edinburgh area, from the East end of Princes Street go South along North Bridge Street.
North Bridge Street becomes South Bridge Street as it crosses the High Street (the Royal
Mile). Proceed along South Bridge Street, crossing Cowgate and then Chambers Street.
From South Bridge Street, turn right on South College Street, proceed one block, and you
will see the Student Centre on your left at the intersection of South College and Potter
Row. Proceed South on Pottter Row for another couple of blocks and you will see Appleton
Tower on your right at the intersection of Potter Row and Crichton Street.

Questions About Registration
Q. May I pay the regular

A. You may pay the total of
$265 and $60 after November 16, 1998. If you decide to do this, you need only send
your Presenter Application / Registration Form now, and leave the Presenter Payment

Payment Registration Form after November 16, 1998, at the time you want to make your
payment. If you want to pay the presenter registration fee after November 16, 1998,
you should pay $265 US, plus the amount for the Conference Dinner if you wish to attend
the dinner. You may pay the Presenter Registration of $265 at any time up through
January 31, 1999. After January 31, the Presenter Fee goes up to $330 if not paid by
Jan. 31, 1999.

If you decide to submit your completed

separate Presenter Registration Payment Form to accompany your payment at the later time
when you do make your payment. Note that the Presenter Registration Payment Form can

Q. Do I have to

A. Yes, you must
submit your proposal abstract with the completed Presenter Application / Registration
Form. The Proposal Review and Selection Committee must have the completed
registration form and the 150 word abstract in order to consider your proposal to present.
Note that you can Fax the completed Presenter
Application / Registration Form and your proposal abstract to ICTE at the fax number
listed on the form.
Q. My colleague
and I are interested in submitting a paper for ICTE Edinburgh 1999. The Presenter
Registration Form does not appear to be designed for multiple presenters. How should
we proceed? Also, how do we handle registration payment for each presenter?
A. For an additional authors / presenters
of a paper, you should list the additional presenter(s) of a paper on a plain paper
attachment to the Presenter Application Form on which you identify each co-presenter's
name and affiliation. The presenter's name that is listed on the Presenter
Application Form will be listed first in the list of authors / presenters of a paper in
the published program, with those on the attached sheet listed following.
For registration payment, each co-presenter of a paper must register and
make payment using a copy of the Presenter Registration Payment Form. Each
co-presenter should indicate the same proposal title(s) and identify themselves as a
"co-presenter" on the Proposal Title(s) line of their respective Presenter
Registration Payment Form.
Q. My wife will accompany me to Scotland
for ICTE Edinburgh 1999, but will not attend the Conference. Can she attend the
reception and dinner, and if so, how do I indicate this on the registration form?
A. For your wife (or others accompanying
you) to attend the reception and dinner, enter the total amount for the number of dinner
tickets, and the number of reception tickets, you would like in the "Registration
Fees" section at the top of the Presenter Registration Payment Form, and include
these in the Total Enclosed amount in the "Registration Fees" section, as well
as in the Total Remitted amount in the "Payment By" section. You will
receive the number tickets for which you have paid to the dinner and to the reception in
your registration envelope when you check in at the Conference.
Q. I am not able to fill out your
registration forms on-line, even though they display in my browser.
A. That is correct -- the forms are
designed to be printed to your printer from your browser when they are displayed on the
screen, and not filled out on-line. After the registration forms are printed, they
should be filled out and faxed or mailed to ICTE, to the address or fax number listed.
We haven't yet gone to on-line registration and payment, but may do so
in 1999. We have been concerned about credit card security with on-line payment, but
may implement this with Card Services International in 1999 since they seem to be putting
a secure system in place with a lot of safeguards. This won't be in place in time
for the Edinburgh conference, however.
